Huawei devices have become some of the most desired tech over the past few years. It started as a midlife crisis.

Ren Zhengfei founded the company in 1987 at the age of 42! He had previously served as a military technologist. He is currently in his 70s, still serving as Huawei’s president, and is one of China’s wealthiest citizens.

Sleep is important.

Employees get 90 minutes for lunch in the middle of the day and are permitted to keep mattresses under their desks should they feel the need to fit in a quick power nap.

iPhone fans.

Shao Yang, Huawei’s Vice President, has publicly announced his admiration of Apple’s iPhone, stating that it’s “the best model for the 3G experience.” High praise indeed!

10% of Huawei’s annual income is pushed into their Research and Development efforts. The R&D team is made up of 75,000 employees, and the company places great focus into staying on the cutting edge of tech trends and developments.

Heavyweight competitors.

Huawei is third to only Apple and Samsung when it comes to smartphone shipments. This is largely to do with the affordability of their technology, as well as significant growth in their hold on the international market.

Telecommunication masters.

Although more recently known for being smartphone manufacturers, Huawei is in fact the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world. They have also partnered with 80% of the world’s largest telecommunication companies, including Vodafone and T-Mobile.
