E-Waste Policy

The Apple Doctor E-Waste Policy

E-waste (Electronic Waste) is applied to consumer electronic devices that are near or at the end of its useful life.

In May 2015, the UN Environment Programme reported that up to 90% of the world’s electronic waste is illegally traded or dumped every year. That’s 20 to 50 million tons of e-waste. Improper e-waste disposal hurts the planet and everyone that inhabits it as it is extremely toxic. It contains mercury, arsenic, lead, cadmium and beryllium.

As a business operating with consumer electronic devices, we partner with our e-waste provider, Cape E-Waste Recyclers. As a certified collector of e-waste, Cape E-Waste Recyclers refurbishes, de-manufactures or re-sells unusable computers and their components. All other computer components are disassembled by Cape E-Waste Recyclers and sold as commodities, in compliance with the South African Environmental Act for collections of e-waste.

Don’t forget to back up your device

It’s best practice to back up your device before bring it in. Although unlikely, it is still possible that all the information on the device is lost during certain procedures.
